What's Going On?
A one-off update on my life and writing
Hello friends!
In case you missed it, I moved to London almost exactly one month ago. For those who are interested, I’ve answered a few FAQs at the bottom.
As a result of the move (and the preceding chaos), In Formation has been quiet. This post is a brief update, especially for those who generously support this Substack financially, and a place to share my writing plans moving forward.
I will continue to write native Substack posts. But I’m no longer writing for a living, meaning that, more than previously, In Formation will function as a home base for my writing in multiple publications. During the move, I’ve connected with various editors in the UK and US, as well as Australia. Suddenly, I am limited more by time and energy than connections.
(For pieces written externally I will still try to make the experience of reading here as pleasant as possible.)
When these publications do pay for content, it’s usually tokenistic, rather than a wage (I say that for context, with no bitterness), so I will continue to appreciate greatly the generosity of you who do support In Formation. To some extent, the more money is contributed, the more time I can spend writing the articles that have been filling up my ‘ideas’ collection, such as these:
‘No, Ayaan Hirsi Ali is not the new Jordan Peterson’
‘Why sex doesn’t make sense for Gen Z’
‘How to debate like Jesus’
‘Common sense arguments for God’s existence’
‘The problem of the problem of evil’
‘What does it say about us that Taylor Swift is cool?’
‘The problem with video games that no one talks about’
‘How Jordan Peterson uses the Bible against God’
‘The issue that Christians need to start caring about’
And many more!
In fact, I’d love to know what content you would be most interested in reading and, for some, essentially commissioning for me to write! In a sense, everything I write is about all of these, but it’s good to know what you’re particularly into:
Feel free to comment or reply to this email with a particular topic or headline that you think I should consider writing! If you’d like to join the team supporting this publication and enabling these articles to be written, you can do so below.
FAQs
Why the move to London?
We’ve been considering a move to this part of the world for years. London is lively, English-speaking, close to Europe, beautiful, and full of good churches. Now seemed like the time!
Where in London do you live?
Thanks to the generosity of a Christian connection, we are renting in Notting Hill – a 90-minute walk West of Central London. (And it’s worth walking.)

What work are you doing in London?
I start a full-time role on Thursday, but won’t share details here until I’ve properly started. Reply to this email if you’re interested. Mikaela is working for a recruitment firm who specialise in legal positions.
What church are you attending in London?
We visited four churches in our first month, and decided yesterday to stick with Christ Church Mayfair. It’s relieving to start settling in!
How long is this post going to get???
This long. Thanks for reading!
